Study Abroad: Fashion Marketing in Paris
June 3 – July 6, 2007 or July 8 – August 10, 2007
Gain full exposure to the Paris fashion scene and earn 10 quarter hours or 6 semester hours of academic credit! Travel with the AIU Fashion Department to one of the fashion capitals of Europe – Paris. Long considered a center for innovation, creativity, glamour and "haute couture", Paris is a place where you can become immersed in the great fashions of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Imagine the thrill of studying in a city where the streets are lined with a "Who's Who" list of couture houses, designer shops and boutiques, fashion institutes and fashion trendsetters. AIU is accepting applications for this popular program that can help prepare you for an exciting career in the fashion industry.
Just imagine the creative inspiration you could get when you browse the windows along the "Golden Triangle" where some of the world's top haute couture designers, Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, showcase their talent. Or, take a stroll along Rue du Faubourg St-Honoré, one of the most elegant shopping districts in Paris, where the boutiques of Pierre Cardin, Versace, Gucci and other designers on the cutting-edge of fashion can be found. Through AIU, you can see for yourself why Paris and fashion have become synonymous with each other. Our 5-week Paris Fashion Programs are designed to immerse you in the cultural heritage of the French capital that has inspired generations of artists, writers, philosophers... and some of the world's most renowned fashion designers!
Academic Program Format
While in Paris, you are enrolled in two courses based on the session you attend.Session A: June 3 – July 6, 2007
- FAS 206 Fashion Cultures
- FAS 321 Visual Merchandising
- FAS 260 Fashion Styling
- FAS 323 Trend Forecasting
Cultural Activities - Beyond the Classroom
You will have access to a full program of cultural activities that are designed to provide an appreciation of the cultural heritage of the French capital. Sights that have made the city famous – the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, l'Arc de Triomphe – are visited along with the Latin Quarter and Montmartre sections of Paris renowned for the creative inspiration they have provided to artists, writers and philosophers.Program fee includes:
- Tuition and related fees for two classes.
- Accommodation in student apartments (twin rooms with shower and kitchen facilities).
- Full orientation program in Paris, including a 1/2 day walking tour.
- Academic visits which introduce students to the work of Paris fashion professionals.
- Access to a cultural activities program.
- Two-zone metro/bus pass.
- Paris Museum card which provides access to all national museums including the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay.
